So, this is day 2 of the quote challenge set for me by the lovely Nina over at The Cozy Pages; thanks again to her for the nomination :O) Today’s quote is from Oscar Wilde, author of the incomparable “The Importance of Being Earnest” (A Handbag!?!??!), and great intellectual wit.
It was difficult to pin down my favourite quote of his as there are so many but I do love this one because it’s profound but, at the same time, amusing and slightly caustic. To say that we should forgive our enemies is a wonderfully pure sentiment but then to suggest that we do it because it will really annoy them is far more human and therefore far more relateable to those of us whose halos could do with a bit of a polish…
Essentially he is summing up human nature: we would like to think of ourselves as being able to take the moral high ground but, in reality, we’d really like to see our enemies fall over while we’re on the way up……
Hope you liked this one – last one tomorrow
Have a happy day everyone
