Sunshine Blogger Award

What a nice surprise for a Sunday morning; the lovely Rory has gifted me the Sunshine Bloggers Award! If you don’t know Rory, do pop over and say hello, he is so much fun and a really great guy – I just know that you’ll get along :O)  So, what’s this all about?

What a nice surprise for a Sunday morning; the lovely Rory has gifted me the Sunshine Bloggers Award! If you don’t know Rory, do pop over and say hello, he is so much fun and a really great guy – I just know that you’ll get along :O)  So, what’s this all about?

The Sunshine Blogger Award is an award for bloggers who are creative, positive, and inspiring – people who spread “sunshine” to the blogging world!

How nice is that!? We all need a little bit of sunshine in our lives and there is so much to be found in the Blogosphere, we can all bask in its rays :O)

Rory has posed some questions and I will attempt to answer them as truthfully as I can without getting in any trouble:

If you could do something a bit naughty every day and not get caught, what would you do?

Definitely speed, no not the drug, driving at speed. Around here the limit is 50kmph (30 mph) unless you’re on the motorway and even then, in places, it’s only 90kmph (55 mph). There’s a good reason for it – the mountain roads are very winding and downright dangerous in places but I do just long to be able to put my foot down without being flashed by a speed camera (which is there for my security apparently and not to make money for the Government).

What are the unwritten rules to blogging?

  1. Don’t make it all about you
  2. Be nice to other bloggers
  3. Don’t forget rules 1 and 2

What kind of cult would you like to start?

I don’t know about starting one but I would have liked to belong to the one started by Osho, mainly because he said things like this:

“Nobody can say anything about you. Whatsoever people say is about themselves. But you become very shaky, because you are still clinging to a false center. That false center depends on others, so you are always looking to what people are saying about you. And you are always following other people, you are always trying to satisfy them. You are always trying to be respectable, you are always trying to decorate your ego. This is suicidal. Rather than being disturbed by what others say, you should start looking inside yourself…

Whenever you are self-conscious you are simply showing that you are not conscious of the self at all. You don’t know who you are. If you had known, then there would have been no problem— then you are not seeking opinions. Then you are not worried what others say about you— it is irrelevant!

When you are self-conscious you are in trouble. When you are self-conscious you are really showing symptoms that you don’t know who you are. Your very self-consciousness indicates that you have not come home yet.”

Is a HotDog a sandwich, a roll or an overheated K9?

Sausage inna bun :O) I’m not sure if it qualifies as a roll or a sandwich – it’s a bit like the debate: ‘Is a jaffa cake a cookie or a cake?’, there are arguments for both sides

What is the most creative, inventive and imaginative insult you can come up with?

None of these are actually mine but I find them to be very satisfying on the rare occasions that I feel the need to insult someone:

“May the fleas of a thousand camels infest your armpits”

“It’s like having a battle of wits with an unarmed man”

And, when I’m really miffed:

“Fuck you and the horse you rode in on”

Right that’s it for my answers, now to come up with some questions:

  1. What’s the daftest thing that you’ve ever said?
  2. If you knew that you couldn’t fail, what would you try?
  3. What’s the worst thing that ever happened to you on a date?
  4. Who would you spend your last hour on earth with and why?
  5. What’s the funniest scene you’ve ever seen in a movie/series (and please share a video as we all like a good laugh)

I’m going to gift this award to the following bloggers but anyone is more than welcome to answer the questions either in the comments or with their own post:

Darren is one of the first bloggers I followed and still one of my favourites

Billy is the ultimate ‘cup half full’ guy and always has a sunny attitude

Brian has an amazing sense of the ridiculous and his posts always make me chuckle

Have fun guys, I really look forward to reading your answers ;O)

Sunshine Blogger Award (No. 4…I think)

Morning chaps! Well, my good chum Rory a wonderful guy called bloke, is now responsible for me having to erect a virtual shelf as he has nominated me for another award. Honestly, I am really touched by this so thanks from the bottom of my heart Rory :O) Do wander over and have a chat with him, his blog is incredibly entertaining and I’m sure you’ll love it!

As always I have to apprise you of the rules (what happens if you break one I wonder…?):

Thank the blogger/s who nominated you.

Use the “Sunshine Blogger Award” logo on your post and list the rules.

Answer the 11 questions the selector asks of you.

Nominate 5-11 bloggers you want to give the award to.

Ask the following bloggers that you selected 11 questions of your own.

These are Rory’s questions and he has put some real humdingers in there…..holds nose and dives in:

Why was he called Darth Vader and not Fart Fader?

Because the storm troopers would have cracked up laughing every time their Lord and master was announced and that would have been just awful for his street cred. (I’ve added a video here because it illustrates life for Darth Vader without his creds)

What’s the worst pair of socks you have ever owned?

Every single pair. Socks are the work of the devil.

Do you think the older we get, whilst we become wiser to a certain extent we become dumber in so far as our faster progression of digital software and if so why and if not why?

I don’t understand that bit about progression of digital software but I could explain the meaning of life over a nice cup of tea if you’ve got a minute.

What is the difference between an acquaintance and a colleague?

An acquaintance is someone you choose to spend time with every now and again whereas a colleague is someone you’re forced to spend time with every day whether you like it or not

If nothing held you back in your confidence what would you cram into one day where the rest of life would be made easier because of the previous days actions?

I would spend the whole day talking to complete strangers and then hope to benefit from at least one new found friendship in the days following.

Of everything you do in a given 24 hours per day what takes up the most time?

Thinking….

If you could travel back in time and change 1 hour of your life knowing full well it will alter your current past, present and future would you do so, and if so what? If not, what prevents you from doing so?

I was going to give a joke answer to this (probably involving socks) but I won’t. The hour I would change would be the last that my husband spent on earth. He died at 2am and I’d been persuaded to go home some time in the evening; not being with him to hold his hand as he left this world is my only regret in life and the guilt will stay with me forever. If I could go back I would spend that hour with him.

Ok, so we live each day, every second, every minute and every hour of every day, week, month and year, and at which point of any given day, week or month or year would you say you feel or have felt  the most alive?

The day that I got married.

What’s more important to you? Your Phone or your wallet/purse/bag?

Definitely my bad, without that I wouldn’t have anywhere to put my phone ;O)

Uh oh! You have died before your time and you are there standing with the Maker and discussing your available options, which are:

Go back as a donkey

Go back as a walrus

Go back as a cockroach

Go back as a completely different person of 40, your choice of gender.

Stay dead.

What would you choose and why?

If you chose the ‘stay dead’ option, why did you do that?

I would choose to stay dead. Why? I am unique, there is only one of me and there was only ever meant to be one of me plus why would you want to go back when you could go forward?

Wow those were some tough questions Rory!

Now on to mine, shall I be naughty or nice…………..?

  1. If you had the opportunity to meet Jesus [or insert deity of choice] what question would you ask?
  2. What’s your favourite memory from childhood?
  3. If someone gave you a skateboard and directed you to a steep hill, would you give it a go?
  4. If it was perfectly acceptable to walk around naked would you?
  5. If you were given the gift of telepathy for one hour would you use it and, if so, who with?
  6. What would you change about your life if you knew your ‘sell by date’?
  7. What’s the funniest thing that you’ve ever seen?
  8. There is a fork in the road – one way leads to a certain future where contentment is guaranteed and the other to uncertainty with the possibility of both ecstasy and agony; which path would you choose?
  9. Days on the beach or nights by a log fire, which would you choose?
  10. If you could be guaranteed to feel no fear, what would you do that you haven’t done up until now?
  11. If you had the choice between giving 100 Christmas gifts and receiving nothing or receiving 100 and giving none, which would you choose.

There you have it, my 11 questions, and they are open to anyone who would like to answer them because I do enjoy a good free for all! However, I am also going to nominate a few of my favourite bloggers for an award which I hope they’ll accept even if they don’t fancy baring their all and answering my questions:

Braeden Michaels over at Storm of Ink – a very talented poet and all round nice guy

The lovely Brandi. A great gal to share a chat and a cup of joe

Wendi, a lovely, kind, gentle lady who can life your heart with her words

Ivor who’s a great poet, super chap and, apparently a plumber.

Dr Perry. A great guy with rare common sense and a kind heart

There you have it, it’s over to you guys now….

Have a super day one and all

Sunshine Blogger Award

Blimey, 2 awards in 7 days, I shall have to put up a shelf at this rate! I am truly honoured to have received this nomination……..no scrap that, it sounds way too stuffy! A big shout out and a huge thank you to Sadje, a prolific and incredibly entertaining blogger; if you don’t already know her please have a wander over and check out her site, I’m sure that you’ll love it :O)

Once again I will have to have a rummage around in my brain to come up with some answers to her 11 questions. I’m going to have a quick cup of tea and I’ll be right back…..OK, I’m ready:

What made you start blogging?

Initially it was something to do. I live alone, I hadn’t worked in some time and I’ve always enjoyed writing. However, over time it became a way to unravel some emotional spaghetti and to meet some truly amazing people. I have never come face to face with another blogger but I count a number of you as friends which is something truly incredible!

Do your friends and family support you in this?

Yes, absolutely.

Which is your favorite time of the day?

Can I have two? I love first thing in the morning, watching the sun rise with the expectation of a new day but also after dark when I can sit and relax with a glass of wine, some good music and my memories.

MauritiusWhat would be your dream vacation?

I had it. It was the last holiday that my husband and I took together; we had an amazing two weeks in Mauritius. It was somewhere I’d always wanted to go since seeing pictures of the place when I was about 18 and it didn’t disappoint. We saw and did everything we wanted to do and we laughed so much! Shortly afterwards he began chemo and that was the beginning of the end. I will never forget those two weeks although the memories are bitter sweet.

As for future travels, I want to see as much of the World as possible before I pop my clogs so I am always looking for new destinations – let me know if you have any suggestions :O)

What genre of movies you like best?

Psychological thrillers definitely. I love any film or book that gets my brain working trying to figure out what’s going to happen in the end……

What are your strengths and weaknesses?

Oh God, I remember answering this question in job interviews and always found it difficult! I guess I am very loyal and honest but I overthink and can be lazy – best I can do with that one.

Are you an emotional person?

Oh yes! Far too emotional probably.

There is no secret ingredientWhat motivates you in life and writing?

In life what motivates me is to try and enjoy every day and to experience as much as I possibly can before my time is up. With writing, I honestly don’t know; words pop into my head and they go straight to the keyboard, it’s really not much more complicated than that but I do it because I enjoy it :O)

What sort of friend are you to your pals?

I don’t have many close friends but those that I do have I would do anything for.

Have you written poetry as well?

Yes. I used to love writing poetry when I was at school and I seem to have wandered back into it in the last few months. There’s something very satisfying about organising words into a rhythm and I find I can express my emotions through poetry far more easily than with prose. I have also been lucky enough to have found some absolutely awesome poets on WP; some of their work absolutely knocks my socks off!

Being happy or peaceful, what is more important to you?

Peaceful. I strive to be happy, like everyone, but I don’t think that you can be happy all the time so I strive for peace. That way, even if I feel sad, I can accept the emotion for what it is but still remain calm. I spent so much time dealing with a torrent of emotion that now a moment of genuine peace is a real blessing.

I am now supposed to nominate 11 others but, in my experience, many bloggers don’t like awards so I am going to pose 11 questions to anyone who would like to answer them. For me, anyone who commits to a blog and shares their thoughts and inspirations with others deserves an award ;O)

  1. Socks? Love them or hate them?
  2. Is there a God?
  3. Is a pizza a pizza without cheese?
  4. What’s your favourite book and why?
  5. Do aliens exist or are we floating around in space all alone?
  6. Do you still have the teddy you slept with as a child?
  7. Brussel sprouts? Yes or no?
  8. Christmas? Do you love it or hate it?
  9. What’s sexier – a beaming smile or thigh high boots?
  10. If you were stuck with one view for the rest of your life, what would it be?
  11. Which do you prefer? Spring or Autumn?

Have a wonderful day one and all

Sunshine Blogger Award

And the award goes to…….those who are creative, positive, and inspiring, while spreading sunshine to the blogging community and, apparently, that includes me! I am chuffed to little mintballs!! A big shout out and a huge thank you to Word Hunter who kindly nominated me for the award and set a bunch of questions that I found surprisingly difficult to answer. Of course that could be because I’m still suffering from the plague a cold but enough playing for sympathy (if you could just pass the tissues and a hot toddy would be lovely, thanks) let’s get on with the rules:

Of course that could be because I’m still suffering from the plague a cold but enough playing for sympathy (if you could just pass the tissues and a hot toddy would be lovely, thanks) let’s get on with the rules:

Thank the blogger who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog

Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you

Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions

List the rules and display The Sunshine Blogger Away logo in your post or on your blog

So, off we go, here are the questions that were put to me:

1. What inspired you to start blogging?

Quite simply I needed something that would help me fill a void in my life.

2. What is your favourite book/ books?

Difficult to narrow it down but I suppose the ones I have read repeatedly are The Other Boleyn Girl by Phillipa Gregory (I find Henry VIII fascinating despite his proclivity for offing wives), the Harry Potter books, anything by Terry Pratchett, Weaveworld by Clive Barker……OK I’m going to stop there otherwise I’ll be here all day!

3. How do you gather ideas for your blog?

I feel that I should be explaining a ‘process’ here but, to be honest, I don’t have one; random thoughts pop into my head (often when I’m in the shower) and, after a bit of fiddling about, they end up on my blog. Occasionally I’ll read something in the paper that inspires me to write but I find the news too bloody depressing these days to use it for ‘inspiration’ very often.

4. What an ideal day like to you?

Honestly? One spent with my husband but as that’s no longer possible I’m going to say one where I wake up……..

5. Who inspired you the most?

My brother. He has achieved everything that he set out to achieve because he has absolute focus (whereas I have the attention span on a gnat)

6. If you could have any super power, what would you choose?

I’ve been asked this before and I think I said ‘the power to make people laugh’ but I;m going to change that to ‘the power to give people inner peace’. Sorry if that sounds a bit hippy, new agey but I think that’s what most people really hope for……..it’s certainly what I hope for anyway.

7. What is most important to you while writing?

Om. Sounds bizarre I know but I always have an Om chant playing on Youtube whilst I’m writing, it helps me concentrate

8. Do you enjoy poetry?

I do yes.

9. Which kind of poems do you like?

Those that move me in some way

10. Do you have a favourite poem? Which one?

This one by Stevie Smith, it’s called Not Waving But Drowning:

Nobody heard him, the dead man,
But still he lay moaning:
I was much further out than you thought
And not waving but drowning.
Poor chap, he always loved larking
And now he’s dead
It must have been too cold for him his heart gave way,
They said.
Oh, no no no, it was too cold always
(Still the dead one lay moaning)
I was much too far out all my life
And not waving but drowning.

11. What is the One thing you value the most in your life?

The fact that I have one.

Right, now I have to come up with 11 questions and 11 bloggers to nominate so, in no particular order, here are my nominations – drum roll please…..

  1. Darren because he is a genuine ray of sunshine in the WP world
  2. Wendi who does so much for others even though she suffers herself
  3. Billy who has his fair share of struggles but still keeps his wonderful sense of humour
  4. Tom, a genuinely great bloke who’s just been through a tough time
  5. Brian who is absolutely hilarious
  6. Matt, not because he is a bringer of sunshine exactly but because I think he’s a creative genius
  7. Lorraine who finds light in the darkness
  8. Dr Perry who always motivates and inspires
  9. Andrea who makes me chuckle
  10. John whose quirky little posts bring a smile
  11. Mike because I love his writing

Right, now I need to think of some questions………..here you go:

  1. What’s the thing that you like most about yourself?
  2. Do you have any little oddities?
  3. A million dollars or a 1000 hours of bliss? Which would you prefer?
  4. Which animal do you most identify with?
  5. Do you believe in fate or think we create our own destinies?
  6. Which of your blog posts are you most proud of (feel free to add link)
  7. It’s your last day on Earth – what will you do?
  8. What’s your favourite quote and why?
  9. If you had to give up one forever would it be reading or writing?
  10. What’s your happiest memory?
  11. Who are you?

Ok, I think I’ve covered everything. Thanks again to Word Hunter for the nomination and I look forward to reading the answers from my victims nominees in the near future.

Have a great day one and all

The Sunshine Blogger Award – Spreading the Joy

Since becoming part of the blogging community I’ve discovered new ideas and so much positivity that I’m afraid that my days on Twitter are becoming a thing of the past – it’s a wonderfully inspiring world to be in :O)

The Sunshine Blogger award is given by bloggers to bloggers who inspire positivity and creativity in the blogging community. I am so very happy to have been nominated.

Sally CroninA huge thank you for the nomination goes out to Sally G Cronin at the wonderfully entertaining Smorgasbord-Variety is the Spice of Life.  In this post Sally talks about her book Turning Back the Clock: How to Feel and Look 10 Years Younger – a subject very close to my heart; I especially love her ‘Old Fogey’ questions ;O)

She says: “This book takes a look at the physical, mental and emotional aspects of aging and how a little attitude adjustment goes a long way!” Right on Sally!

The rules for accepting the award are as follows:

Thank the Blogger who nominated you.

Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions.
Display the rules and the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post.

Here are the questions given to me to answer:

  1. Can you tell us about yourself in 100 words or less?

My name is Lisa and I’m English but I live in the beautiful and sunny South of France. I moved here after I lost my husband because my old life had ended and I desperately needed to do something to start a new one. I’m 51 3/4 and do what I can to help my body to keep up with my 25 year old mind.

2.Can you tell us more about your blog in 100 words of less that would encourage people to follow you?

I’d like to say that I have a blog that is focused and carefully constructed but, the fact is, I write about things that interest me. I have always loved exercise and, over the last few years I have developed an interest in the benefits of a healthy diet so many of my posts are about that. I also enjoy yoga and meditation so they crop up too and sometimes something in the media will catch my attention and I’ll write about that. Sometimes serious and sometimes frivolous – like me ;O)

3.What is the strongest memory from your childhood?

Being with my Grandad, who died when I was about 5 I think; we were in his garden and he held me up so that I could collect black cherries from the roof of their little garden shed.

4.Can you tell us more about where you live and why you call it home?

I am lucky enough to live on the Cote D’Azur, just down the road from Monaco. My apartment has a view of the sea and, as I have always felt more peaceful when I am close to water, it’s perfect for me. I first came here after I lost my husband and, although I am not sure why, it felt like I was coming home and it was a very easy decision to relocate here. That’s not to say that I don’t miss friends and family back in the UK, I do, but for me, now, this is home.

5.Do you have someone in your family that is your role model?

My brother. He is a successful businessman, an author, a racing driver and a martial arts expert. He is utterly, utterly focused and if he starts something he will always finish it no matter how long it takes. I admire his tenacity and wish I had even a 10th of it!

6Is there a country that you have not visited but is on your wish list?

There are 2 actually: India, specifically the Isha Centre in Delhi because the teachings of Sadhguru have helped me a great deal in the last year as has regular yoga practice. The second is the Seychelles because it looks stunningly beautiful and I love lying on the beach and swimming in beautiful, clear, calm seas.

7.Who is your favourite author and why?

That one I can’t answer because it changes all the time depending on my mood but my favourite book is The Other Boleyn Girl by Phillipa Gregory as it brings to life my favourite period in history. It tells the story of Anne Boleyn and her sister Mary and the time that they spent in and out of favour with the most brutal and, in some ways, charismatic monarch in history – Henry VIII.

8.What is your favourite meal?

Any combination of chicken and avocado as a main course and, although I don’t often eat desert it would be tiramisu with Grand Marnier – sinfully rich but delicious!

9.What is your favourite musician and can you let us have a YouTube link so that we can listen to them?

Again that’s  very difficult question as I love music but find that my musical tastes change with my mood. I suppose the band I never get tired of listening to is Mumford and Sons; their music is original and the lyrics are very poetic and thought provoking:

Thistle and Weeds by Mumford and Sons

10.What is your favourite film and why?

Dangerous Liaisons with John Malkovich, Glenn Close and Michelle Pfeiffer because it’s a love story but without a happy ending; it shows all the frailties of human emotion and how destructive they can be. It’s also beautifully filmed, funny in places and desperately sad at the end; I’ve watched in countless times. The fact that, for me, John Malkovich is wildly attractive in this film could also have something to do with it.

11.If you could live in another time.. decade or century.. what would that be?

Honestly? I wouldn’t. We can never go backwards only forward :O)

These are my nominees and I’ve chosen them because, with each of them, I’ve found something to interest or inspire me; I’ve included recent posts of theirs with the hope that they’ll do the same for you:

These are my questions to all of you; I really hope that you’ll be able to find time to answer them so that your fans and followers will be able to find out a little more about you, your life and your work:

  1. What was your inspiration for starting your blog?
  2. What do you think it is that appeals to others about your writing?
  3. What do you most fear?
  4. Have you ever cried tears of joy and, if so, why?
  5. What was the biggest turning point in your life?
  6. What is your biggest temptation?
  7. What is your secret pleasure?
  8. Who is your favourite person in the world and why?
  9. What do you like most about yourself?
  10. If you had one day left on earth what would you do?
  11. Of all the things you’ve done, what has given you your biggest adrenaline rush?

I haven’t been at this blogging lark for very long so, once again, a big thank you to Sally for nominating me and a big thank you to all you guys out there – your likes and follows really make my day! Since becoming part of the blogging community I’ve discovered new ideas and so much positivity that I’m afraid that my days on Twitter are becoming a thing of the past – it’s a wonderfully inspiring world to be in :O)
