Song Lyric Sunday

Morning blogging World, how’re you doing today? I hope that you have had a great week and are ready for another Song Lyric Sunday, brought to us by the lovely Jim Adams, where we get to share our favourite tunes, discover new music and meet new bloggers. If you’d like to play along, and I hope that you will because its great fun, here are some rules for you:

  • Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it fits the theme or not.
  • Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due.
  • Make sure you also credit the singer/band and if you desire you can provide a link to where you found the lyrics.
  • Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song.
  • Ping back to this post will eventually work, as long as you are being patient, but you can also place your link in the comments if you don’t like to wait.
  • Read at least one other person’s blog, so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process.
  • Feel free to suggest future prompts.
  • Have fun and enjoy the music.

This week’s prompt is Seasons/Winter/Spring/Summer/Fall and here is my choice which, I have to say, came to me immediately, as I absolutely adore this song:

The summer sun is fading as the year grows old
And darker days are drawing near
The winter winds will be much colder
Now you’re not here

I watch the birds fly south across the autumn sky
And one by one they disappear
I wish that I was flying with them
Now you’re not here

Like the sun through the trees you came to love me
Like a leaf on the breeze you blew away

Through autumn’s golden gown we used to kick our way
You always loved this time of year
Those fallen leaves lie undisturbed now
‘Cos you’re not here
‘Cos you’re not here
‘Cos you’re not here

Like the sun through the trees you came to love me
Like a leaf on the breeze you blew away

A gentle rain falls softly on my weary eyes
As if to hide a lonely tear
My life will be forever Autumn
‘Cos you’re not here

Songwriters: Gary Anthony Osborne / Jeff Wayne / Paul Anthony Vigrass
This song comes from War of the Worlds by Jeff Wayne, most of which I was not terribly enamored with to be honest. For me the other tracks sound dated but this one is just beautiful; the lyrics are so poignant, the melody is memorable and Justin Hayward’s voice gives just the right balance between power and emotion.
I can’t really say much more than that, the track is years old but it has stuck with me because it sums up so well what it’s like to lose someone you love. When I was a teenager suffering seemingly endless heartbreak (as teenagers are wont to do) it was my go to song. I’d have a good cry on my bed and then get ready for another night out with my friends, heartbreak forgotten.
These days……..I hadn’t listened to this song for ages and, to be honest, it made me cry. Last week would have been my 15th wedding anniversary and next week it will be 5 years since the death of the love of my life. For the most part I enjoy what I have now – my lovely sea-front apartment, my friends, my blog and my writing but, some days, days like today, I wonder if my life will be forever autumn because he’s not here………..
