If Only……

..The Bible had been an autobiography. After the killings in Christchurch and those in Sri Lanka a few days ago, I can’t help thinking that God must really regret not making his intentions for the human race clearer. I’m not trying to make light of those two terrible atrocities but I do wonder how much longer mankind will continue to maim and kill in the name of religion.

I’m not trying to make light of those two terrible atrocities but I do wonder how much longer mankind will continue to maim and kill in the name of religion.

From the Crusades to the Muslim Conquests, from the Protestant Reformations to the troubles in Northern Ireland and 9/11, millions upon millions of people have died because they believed that ‘their’ God was ‘better’ than other Gods – are we really so stupid? Every single religious book speaks of peace and yet that seems to be the one message that has been forgotten in the desire to prove others wrong. What do you think? Will we ever learn?

  1. The blame rests with these fanatics who think that any religion endorses violence and crimes against humanity. Blaming God, or the religion itself cannot solve the problem as NONE of these people KNOW or FOLLOW their religion.

      1. Religion is a way of life. People don’t make religion, it makes them. But if not followed correctly without understanding the basis of it, there is no positive effect. Just chaos

  2. God did make it clear enough how he expected people to live in harmony. These killers do not love God. As for the subject of religion I don’t believe religious groups encourage this unacceptable behaviour. Its evil people that use the word religion as a mask for killing and harming others.

    1. I do agree that people ‘interpret’ religion so that it supports their ideologies, it’s just a shame that they use the sections that call for violence and intolerance and ignore the far more common passages that say we should just be nice and love each other

  3. I think we may never learn. The extremists will always be able to sway just enough hearts and minds to continue to cause wars to be fought, hateful acts to be perpetrated, and equality to be denied. It’s a shame, since all the religions are about love and serenity at their core

  4. Not all mass slaughter has to do with religion BUT it’s pretty hard to figure out what some atrocities were about if it wasn’t religion. Banning religion doesn’t work and why should we ban that which is supposed to be good and peaceful .The only explanation is pure evil, who could or would corrupt religion and men’s hearts, but The Devil, but which politician or World name is going to stand up and say ‘Hey, scientists have just confimed that The Devil is real.’
    On a local note, why were we ever decieved into thinking there was peace in Nothern Ireland? Never forget, never forgive is their mantra.

    1. I don’t know what I believe to be honest but I have little time for organised religion – I just wish people would be nicer to each other :O) I wonder at humanity that we found it necessary to create God and the Devil…..x

  5. I really wish that we could find a way to eradicate the impulse of destructive hatred. What is really disturbing to me is that I heard today there is an Australian connection to the perpetrator of the Sri Lankan attacks as there was in the case of Christchurch… supposedly they were both radicalised here… it just is so heart breaking but I don’t know if we will ever fully eradicate violent impulses. that it happens due to religious belief is just another case of separatist thinking.

  6. The only way for the human race to learn peace, is to learn the difference between a peacemaker vs. peacekeeper.
    And the human race needs to learn how to let go of pride. The problem starts with Pride, everyone wants to win and lead. But no one has a clue that they’re feeding into pride. Letting go of pride, means gaining self-control. Meekness under control. 🤔

  8. you asked a very simple question………”are we really so stupid” and the answer is yes. people want to be right and lord their beliefs over others………instead of being content and living the best life possible in peace and compassion. so sad.

  9. People look for answers to unanswerable questions by turning to superstition and fantasy and believing it to be real, when it’s just mythology. And they perceive anyone who doesn’t embrace their fantasy and mythology to be “the other.” And since humans tend to play a zero-sum game (if I’m right, you must be wrong), they must destroy “the other,” lest they find out the truth about their religious fantasies…that it’s all bullshit. Sorry, but I’m tired of people using God and religion to justify doing terrible things to their fellow humans. I guess I need to take a deep breath and count to ten.

    1. I think that you’re absolutely right in all that you say. We all seem to spend so much of our lives looking for the ‘answers’ to the ‘big questions’ – for me the biggest question is why can’t we all just be a bit bloody nicer to each other ;O) xx

  10. Religion baffles me. But I find spirituality effortless. It is a lonely perch, though, and one I NEVER argue about because anyone who adheres to religion is immediately on guard. I fear humanity will never learn, even as I hope enough of us will live our spirituality rather than spew doctrine and rules, so that we actually make a difference. Namaste…🙏🙏🙏

  11. The Quoran – K’oran however you spell it……does not bode well for the rest of us unless some radicals are taking things out of context. Could that be? I would like to read it and figure out if it really DOES say to kill everyone except Muslims so that they can get into their heaven.
