Song Lyric Sunday

How did we get to the end of another week so quickly? I have no idea but here we are again and it’s time for Song Lyric Sunday, our chance to discover new music and and find new blogging friends. Brought to us by Jim Adams (do pop over and say hello, he’d love to see you), this week’s theme is River/Stream/Creek/Brook. If you’d like to play along and I do hope you will because it’s fun, here are some rules for you:

How did we get to the end of another week so quickly? I have no idea but here we are again and it’s time for Song Lyric Sunday, our chance to discover new music and and find new blogging friends. Brought to us by Jim Adams (do pop over and say hello, he’d love to see you), this week’s theme is River/Stream/Creek/Brook. If you’d like to play along and I do hope you will because it’s fun, here are some rules for you:

  • Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it fits the theme or not.
  • Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due.
  • Make sure you also credit the singer/band and if you desire you can provide a link to where you found the lyrics.
  • Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song.
  • Ping back to this post will eventually work, as long as you are being patient.
  • Read at least one other person’s blog, so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process.
  • Feel free to suggest future prompts.
  • Have fun and enjoy the music.

Here is my choice for this week:

I see double up ahead
Where the riverboat swayed beneath the sun
Is where the river runs red
Like a King who stalks the wings and shoots a dove
And frees an eagle instead
It’s more or less the same as the things that you said
I see trouble up the road
Like the things you found in love are by the way
And like to cheat on your soul
Like the best and worst of thoughts that lose control
Before you lie on your bed
It’s more or less the same as the things that you said
Anyway for all the things you know tell me why does the river not flow
Anyway for all the things you said tell me why does the river run red
Anyway for all the things you’ve seen tell me when will the river run green
And anyway for all the things you know tell me why does the river not flow
It’s more or less the things you fail to say in your way that’s your trouble
Like a King who stalks the wings and shoots the moon and the stars
And his double
It’s more or less the same as the things that you said
Anyway for all the things you know tell me why does the river not flow
Anyway for all the things you said tell me why does the river run red
Anyway for all the things you’ve seen tell me when will the river run green
And anyway for all the things you know tell me why does the river not flow
I see trouble up ahead
Where the river boat swayed beneath the sun
Is where the river runs red
I see double, that’s my trouble

This song comes from the Moseley Shoals album which was the only Ocean Colour Scene album I ever bought so I definitely cannot be called a ‘fan’. Saying that, I do love this song as it has a real, angry energy and you can’t help but pound along with the heavy rhythm.
As for the lyrics, I could never figure out what they meant but it almost feels as though they are sung by someone with some sort of raging inner battle, faced with two directions and unsure which one to take.
I hadn’t listened to this for absolutely ages so I started playing some of the other tracks on the album; I’d forgotten how good it is! As a bonus I thought I’d also share this song with you, it’s nothing to do with rivers or brooks but I love it and I hope you will too

That’s it. Have a super Sunday everyone :O)
