Happy Sunday fellow bloggers, I hope you’ve had a great week, hasn’t it just sped by? Seven days have whizzed past and here we all are again, ready to share our love of music and discover new and exciting tracks. This is courtesy of the lovely Helen; she’s celebrating a birthday today so why not pop over and wish her many happy returns, she’d love to hear from you….
The theme for this week is find/found and, if you’d like to play along (please do, it’s so much fun) here are the rules:
- Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it fits the theme or not
- Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due and it’s honestly just a simple Google search
- Make sure you also credit the singer/band and provide a link to where you found the lyrics
- Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song
- Ping back to this post or my own Song Lyric Sunday post
- Read at least one other person’s blog so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process
I have to admit this was a bit of a tricky one but eventually I decided on this by Duran Duran
Came in from a rainy Thursday on the avenue
Thought I heard you talking softly.
I turned on the lights, the TV and the radio
Still I can’t escape the ghost of you
What has happened to it all?
Crazy, some’d say,
Where is the life that I recognize?
Gone away
But I won’t cry for yesterday, there’s an ordinary world,
Somehow I have to find.
And as I try to make my way, to the ordinary world
I will learn to survive.
Passion or coincidence once prompted you to say
“Pride will tear us both apart”
Well now pride’s gone out the window cross the rooftops, run away,
Left me in the vacuum of my heart.
What is happening to me?
Crazy, some’d say,
Where is my friend when I need you most?
Gone away
But I won’t cry for yesterday, there’s an ordinary world,
Somehow I have to find.
And as I try to make my way, to the ordinary world
I will learn to survive.
Papers in the roadside tell of suffering and greed
Feared today, forgot tomorrow
Ooh, here besides the news of holy war and holy need
Ours is just a little sorrowed talk
(Just blown away)
And I don’t
But I won’t cry for yesterday, there’s an ordinary world,
Somehow I have to find.
And as I try to make my way, to the ordinary world
I will learn to survive.
Every world, is my world (I will learn to survive)
Any world, is my world (I will learn to survive)
Any world, is my world
Every world is my world

I have to confess that I was a huge fan of Duran Duran when I was a young teenager, mainly because they were all so pretty, but that wore off as I got older and I discovered the likes of Bowie (who was just as pretty but more edgy). However, I discovered this song after I lost my husband (I can’t remember when or where I heard it) and I love it because the lyrics mirror how I feel about my life now.
On the one hand “Where is the life that I recognize? Gone away” and on the other “as I try to make my way, to the ordinary world I will learn to survive”. The melody is not exactly sad, it’s a pop song after all, but I find that there is a sense of melancholy underlying that comes to the fore in certain moments. The lyrics are a little sad but I’ve read far more moving words in many other songs. However, all that being said, there is one point in this song where melody and lyrics come together and I just can’t stop the tears from falling:
“Where is my friend when I need you most? Gone away”
My husband was the best friend that I ever had and I never needed him more than when he died; a tragic irony.
Another Sunday starting with tears but, as the song says, I will learn to survive….
