Who are the 0.00000001%?

99% of people don’t care about you or even think about you, they don’t care what you wear, how you look, where you go, who you see…….nothing. They don’t give a flying cornflake if you’re having a bad day or your cat just died or you just lost your job. Why? Because people are inherently selfish; they think about themselves, their lives and their problems because that is what is within their experience and is what affects them directly.

They don’t give a flying cornflake if you’re having a bad day or your cat just died or you just lost your job. Why? Because people are inherently selfish; they think about themselves, their lives and their problems because that is what is within their experience and that is what affects them directly. You would have an impact on them if, for instance, you saved their life but , after the event, they’ll spend far more time thinking about their near miss than your timely intervention. That’s not to say that people are bad, they aren’t, for the most part, they just cannot understand you because they haven’t lived your life or had your experiences.

Of the 1% that we have left – family, friends, colleagues etc some of them will care slightly about your cat, your job and your bad day because they know you and what you will react to badly or well. They will understand what is expected of them and they will give you what you need because they like you and they want you to like them. It’s not to say that they cannot empathise with you, they can, but empathy, for the most part, comes from imagining what the other person is feeling and reacting as we would like someone to react to us in the same situation.

So what are we left with? Who are the 0.00000001%?

Those are the people who love you, who have been where you are now and understand. Wherever they are in the World, they will be with you, they will carry you in their hearts. Always. Hold these people close because they are precious…………..

  1. Absolutely – as you get older I think you realise that you don’t need a certain number of friends – just a few you can be certain of and those – those are priceless xx
